PSP phone shot down by Sony

PSP phone shot down by SonyAccording to MobileToday,Sony Ericsson has been planning a PSP phone for some time but has been refused the use of the PlayStation brand, killing the phone off.

The brand was refused by Sony, after the handset maker presented a pitch to the board last year. Sources confide that the refusal has caused a fallout between Sony and Ericsson, threatening the mobile phone joint venture.

Sony did note that they intend to license a PlayStation brand phone, if and when the company makes phones independently, seemingly asking for the end of the joint venture.

A Sony Ericsson spokeswoman ‘could not comment on what Sony has or hasn’t said’. She also Added : "In the past, we have been keen that our product proposition lives up to brand promise, and we feel at the moment the technical specs are not high enough to put such a prestigious brand on a phone."

Users, not labels, silence YouTube music videos

Turns out that the top recording companies aren't responsible for silencing YouTube's music videos.

Here's what YouTube said on the company's blog: people who post clips with unauthorized music to the site can choose to mute the audio rather than have YouTube remove the entire video.

YouTube has for a while given those who post videos that include unauthorized copyright music an option of swapping that music for songs that have been pre-cleared. If they don't like that option then YouTube gives them a second choice between having the video removed or turning off the sound, the company said.

"This video contains an audio track that has not been authorized by all copyright holders," says a note from YouTube posted to a video with no sound. "The audio has been disabled."

Representatives from Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group declined to comment.

YouTube's muting policy has been in place for a while. The only reason it's coming to light now is because of the spat between YouTube and Warner Music.

YouTube had licensing deals in place with all four of the major labels. Last month, talks to re-negotiate Warner's deal with YouTube broke down and Warner has pulled out of YouTube. Most of the music being silenced now belongs to Warner.

There's no word yet on when that stalemate might end. At the same time, YouTube is trying to renegotiate deals with the other three labels.

If YouTube can't cut new agreements with the other record companies, YouTube could bring back a new era in silent pictures.

iTunes DRM-Free Files Contain Personal Info

"Apple's iTunes Plus files are DRM-free, but sharing the files on P2P networks may be an extremely bad idea. A report published by CNet highlights the fact that the account information and email address of the iTunes account holder is hidden inside each and every DRM-free download. I checked, and I found I couldn't access the information using an ID3 tag editor, but using Notepad I found my email address stored inside the audio file itself."

PSP 3000 Jailbreak emergence

From the Forum player "MaTiAz", PSP early game "burst racing" game archive data overflow errors exist, MaTiAz edited a copy of special archive data with this loophole, and successfully run portion of the archive code. The author recorded the process with a video presentation, the video show the PSP screen turn blue at the end. The "Hello World" program whihch created by using this loophole has also emerged. Following is the "Hello World" video presentation. In addition PSP3000 specialized SDK "Sparta SDK" (Sparta SDK) has also been announced.

"Hellow World"

Quote:

So, happy new year. I think presenting a new usermode exploit on the PSP is a good way to start 2009

GripShift has a buffer overflow vulnerability when loading savegames. The savegame contains the profile name which can be easily used to overwrite $ra.

The savegame file is pretty big (25kB) so you have lots of space to put your code there. I wrote a simple blob of code to paint the framebuffer completely white (to just indicate that arbitrary code is running ).

The return address is located at offset 0xA9 in the file. In this poc it points to 0x08E4CD50 (which is only a few bytes after the return address), and the code starts at 0xCC in the file.

It was tested on 4.01M33-2 with US version of GripShift (ULUS10040), and psplink.prx, usbhostfs.prx and deemerh.prx loaded (also without psplink and usbhostfs). The decrypted savegame (sorry, couldn't [be bothered to] get Shine's savegame tool working so it's in plaintext form) is in the SDDATA.BIN form which Hellcat's Savegame-Deemer produces (thanks to him, if the program didn't exist I wouldn't have bothered with this. ). Just copy the ULUS10040SAVE00 directory to /PSP/SAVEPLAIN/ and run the game. EDIT: yeah, don't forget to have Savegame-Deemer working, duh.

Credits go to those who deserve them.
